What you'll learn

We'll go slow, and you can ask as many questions as you want.

Finding beautiful natural light

How direct sun, overcast skies, open shade, and deep shade each look, and how to use them.

Manual mode and the exposure triangle

Explained in plain English. No math class required.

Aperture and depth of field

How to get that soft, blurry background, or keep everything sharp when you need to.

ISO

What it does, and when it's okay to turn it up.

Shutter speed

How to freeze motion and keep your photos from turning out blurry from camera shake.

Hands-on shooting practice

You'll practice with your own camera, and I'll give you feedback the whole time.

About your instructor

Hi, I'm Jennifer Witt, a photographer from Mead, Oklahoma and the owner of J Witt Photography LLC. I love teaching beginners how to take control of their cameras. Watching it finally make sense for someone is one of my favorite things.

If you need to cancel, just email me at [email protected] and let me know. Cancel any time up to 48 hours before the workshop for a full refund. If something comes up within 48 hours, I can't offer a refund, but I'm happy to move you to a future workshop date at no charge. If I have to cancel the workshop for any reason, you'll receive a full refund.

A minimum of 5 students is required for the workshop to run. If the minimum is not met, every registrant receives a full refund.

Do I need photography experience?

Nope. This workshop starts at the very beginning. If you can turn your camera on, you're in the right place.

What camera do I need?

Any DSLR or mirrorless camera. Bring it with a charged battery and a memory card, and we'll figure out the rest together.

What if I have to cancel?

Email me at [email protected]. Up to 48 hours before the workshop, you'll get a full refund. Within 48 hours, I can't refund, but I'll gladly move you to a future workshop date at no charge.
